01 Califone - The Hapsburg Jaw
South Pasadena palm tree sun & haze with a very distant memory of a southside Chicago truck wash. So many sounds flood over the tape that at times you forget its a song. Then the song overwhelms you and you forget about all that is going on, with just a words to sing along to. Beautiful chaos. To be released on an album called Villagers on May 23, 2023 on the Jealous Butcher label. B

02 Thor Harris - Day 447 of Quarantine
I saw a photo from this years SXSW music fest of a guy with long stringy hair, a sleeveless shirt, a fedora and big burly hairy shoulders - pretty "uncool" looking. But I listened anyway. Surprise surprise surprise. All kinds of far-out audio. Start reading about this guy Thor and you find out that he thinks the greatest musical creation of all time is Jamaican dub. No kidding dude. Mind blowing. Doom Dub II was Released in summer 2022 by Joyful Noise. B

03 The Faint - Agenda Suicide
Someone mentioned this song off-handedly recently, so it's the only thing I've been thinking about for days. It's one of those. O)))

04 Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs - Big Rig
Was hipped to these Newcastle stoner/sludge rockers by a friend the other night and am just absolutely in awe of a band with the cajones to name their band Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, then record a song called "Big Rig." They also have a single from 2013 that's just one 21-minute song that I'll be blasting in my earphones very often. Dive into this. O)))

05 Fontaines DC - Cello Song
I heard this song on the radio one day recently. The singing voice was recognizable and the melody & words were very familiar. But I had to stop what I was doing and really concentrate. It sounded like Nick Drake, right? Eventually I had to look - sure enough Dubliners Fontaines covering Drake!!! Awesome. Really awesome! From the album The Endless Coloured Ways: The Songs Of Nick Drake. Chrysalis got 30 people to interpret his songs, and here they come in July 2023. B

06 Caramelo Haze - El Payaso
Like nearly all new music, I have no recollection of how I came across this. Members of Caramelo Haze come together with a ton of experience, leading to an enjoyable listen. I picked this track in particular due to its off-kilter and unbalanced feel. It's almost trance like. JC

07 Wingnut Dishwashers Union - Urine Speaks Louder Than Words
I feel like YouTube and TikTok are both awash in zoomers doing clever folk punk songs, and it's a fun rabbit-hole to go down. Burnouts singing passionately about what burnouts they are and how much they hate the government just puts a smile on my face. O)))

08 The J.B.'s - Theme From King Heroin
Off the 1972 album Food for Thought. Mostly composed of James Brown's backing band, plus friends and associates. A mellow song for our warmer spring days ahead. JC

09 Hermanos Gutierrez - Thunderbird
Need a song to dramatically stare off into the distance to? This is for you. Swiss-Ecuadorian brothers trained in classical Latin guitar, but influenced by surf rock. From their 2022 record released on Easy Eye Sound. JC

10 Donovan - The Hurdy Gurdy Man
The mystery (unsolved) movie Zodiak ends with this song creeping you the fuck out. Its the title track of the Scotsman's 6th album released in September 1968 by Epic Records. In his early days people accused D of just trying to be Bob Dylan, but once he found his own voice he was as priceless as anyone. B

11 Gangstagrass - Nickel And Dime Blues
These are the guys that did the theme to popular Timothy-Olyphant-gritting-his-teeth-drama Justified. I never cared for that song, but whenever I hear it I always think about how it's weird there aren't more people rapping over Southern string band music. It's a gimmick, I know, but I like this effort a lot. O)))

12 El Michels Affair & Black Thought - Grateful
The Roots haven't released anything officially in a bit, but Black Thought is keeping himself busy, which is a win for us all. This tune from El Michels Affair has a gentle pace, with Black Thought providing the punch on top of it. JC
