W & W 24 - track list and notes:

A playlist curated by Bruce McGuire, Jim Oliver & Jim Crist, aka Nancy Drew & the Hardy Boys

Graphic Design by Daniele Lanza
Introductory Audio Production by Bill McGuire

01 Bishops Green - The Crow
Anti-war oi! from Vancouver, just like you were expecting to hear in this playlist. O)))

02 Link Wray - Black River Swamp
Fuckin A, gang. Its basically bonfire season. Wherever you burn, whatever you're burning, this'll be a good partner. JC

03 35007 - Evaporate
For me, its hard to swallow the fact that this band is called LOOSE, but like how you would spell it upside down on a calculator. That really bugged me at first. Then I read a bit about the band and discovered they were from the Nederlands, and then it kind of made more sense. Anyways, this song comes from their 2002 record Liquid. It's sludgy and spacy, I almost think of it as what a sci fi book could sound like if it were a song. JC

04 BLK JKS - iQ (w) ira - Machine Learning Vol 1
This song is a JOURNEY. Think I heard this on the Tuesday morning New Like Whatever show on KFAI. I have a distant recollection of this band from some years ago, but this is off their 2021 release Abantu/Before Humans. This song will take you places. JC

05 Drug Church - Unlicensed Guidance Counselor
I need a lot of punk songs about things not working out to get through my day and this is a banger. O)))

06 Cory Branan - Prettiest Waitress in Memphis
Play me a happy country song. JC

07 Ufomammut - Duat
Those crazy Italians power trio dudes are at it again. Going since 1999, and going STRONG. This track is from a brand new album called Fenice and its glorious. Drone, riffs, buried vocals, noise, ambiance, found sound. I love all of those elements. I hope you will too. From the American label Neurot. B

08 Chastity Brown - Like The Sun
We love a good singer songwriter in my house and last night the Mrs saw Chastity open up for Valerie June at the Pantages, so we'll be listening to this a lot this weekend. Off her forthcoming record. O)))

09 Dr John - I Walk On Gilded Splinters
Mac Rebennack was a long time musical and spiritual guru on the New Orleans scene. A truly unique character. This amazing song is from his 1968 debut album Gris-Gris on Atco Records. Far-out & thick, trippy swamp rock. B

10 billy woods - Sauvage
Man, this whole record by billy woods is fantastic. It reminds me of early 2000's Def Jux - El-P, Cannibal Ox and the likes. Very dystopian, very real. Vivid imagery, spooky beats. JC

11 Chris Bell - I Am The Cosmos
A man with a haunted voice that sounds like it is coming out of a transistor radio from the past. Bell was a deep soul guy from Memphis who founded the band Big Star but left after one album. He somehow ended up far from home in France and made one beautiful power-pop/rock album before he passed away at just 27 years old. The album didn't come out until after he died, and it remains an underground classic. This is the title track. B

12 Daniel Avery - Chaos Energy
So new, its still got that new car smell. This song was released in mid-May 2022 as a teaser for a new album (Ultra Truth) to come in the fall. Avery's electronic soup is growing in stature with each new song, and this one is deeper and more concentrated than ever before. From the Phantasy label via Mute Records. B
